Laser and OLED ( Organic Light Emitting Diode) are the two emerging technologies being used by the television vendors to deliver better picture quality. Both these technologies are targeting different segments. If OLED is being seeing as an effective alternative to flat screen display technologies like LED and plasma, laser technology is being used to create alternatives for rear projection televisions such as DLP.

Laser TV

Laser TV can display wider gamut of colours and better image quality than other high definition televisions. These TV’s will have higher life span and will be extremely cost effective as they will consume lesser power. Laser TV’s also weight almost half of the currently available HDTV.

OLED TV

These TV offers amazing picture quality and colour contrast ratio of 1000000:1 which is at least 1000 times higher than any other option available in market. This TV also offers almost 180 degree view angle and has a thickness of just about 3mm weight just couple of pounds.

Though laser TV’s have already hit the stores in 2008, consumers will have to wait slightly longer for OLED screens which are currently being used in small hand held devices like mobiles and MP3. OLED offers greater flexibility and is more cost effective than laser TV.

On the other hand Laser TV scores higher on durability and better life span. The coming time will only be the best judge to suggest the winner among both these great technologies.
